I’m Back Working In My Studio Again

It feels so good to be working in my studio again. Moving has taken up most of my time for the past couple of months. Last weekend I had a big giveaway of art supplies, paper and art at my house. I got rid of ever so much stuff. The remainder I boxed up and donated to a local school. Now my studio is clean and uncluttered. When I got up early this morning, I could hear my studio calling me.

Fun and easy project! Cover a small composition book with paste paper. I will post instructions in a later blog post.

The first thing I did was throw away my old, very worn cutting mat. It was in too bad of shape to even give away. Now I have a wonderful new blue cutting mat sitting on my white drafting table. My knife blade just glides over the surface as it cuts.

I'm loving my new blue mat. My knife glides so easily while I'm cutting.

I had to put a couple commissions on hold while I concentrated on the move, but now, with my studio up and running again, I can get back to them. I still have a moving sale to work on for this weekend, but the move itself is almost complete. It feels so good to have both a studio and a kitchen that I can use again.

This is some left over paper I had from making one of my Boxes for Chocolate. I took black paper, dribbled white acrylic paint on it, then rolled a coil through the paint. Now I'm playing with the idea of using the paper for one of my Earth Spirit Vessels.

I have a lot to get caught up on, but it feels so good to be working at my art again. It won’t be too long before I am working on all the new ideas I came up with while I was moving.

This is the beginning of a joint venture in collaboration with a group of artists. We will be passing the books around to one another each month. This will be my first time making altered books.

Happy creating, Candy

And Even More Moving In

Moving has caused chaos in my studio. I swear, I had my studio in great working order, but then I had to move in more and more supplies as I transferred everything from the old place to the new. There simply isn’t room for everything in my new studio—extra storage space seems to be the one thing lacking here. So, I’m having a big art and art supplies giveaway in a couple of days in order to make room so I can work again.

Bill, Jr. is currently roosting on my bedroom door. He is a bit flighty and changes his position frequently. Bill carries notes and reminders on the paper clip he carries from his beak.

I can’t get to my drafting table due to the boxes of art and art supplies that I don’t have places for here. Although going through everything and getting rid of so much is difficult as well as emotionally draining, I know I will be ever so much happier in my streamlined studio.

I’m looking forward to making art again. I haven’t been able to make much art for the past month, and I realize just how much I miss it. Decorating is being creative, but there’s nothing like actually making art with my very own hands.

Bill and Mary will likely go to a new home as they haven't found a spot that they like here.

As you can see this and the previous posts of photos of my home, my style tends towards a clean and uncluttered look. My walls are off white with the emphasis being on the art. There’s not a lot of embellishments. It’s the same with my paper art. I like clean lines with a contemporary feel.

And while I love the clean and uncluttered look in my home, I have to work hard to keep it that way. My natural instinct is to clutter, but I know that I work better and feel ever so much better in a clean, simple, calm, uncluttered environment. Maybe that’s why this move is taking so much longer than I imagined it would. Another two weeks and I should be in and back to work.

Hugs to all, Candy

And More Moving In

My move in is coming along, although slower than I expected. Somehow everything seems to take longer than to accomplish than I anticipate. I find that seems to be the case for most projects. So here are some more photos of my new to me home.

The watercolor is one I did years ago. The ceramic pot is a sagar fired raku piece by Hannah Brehmer. You can see my two other pieces of hers in last week's post.

This is a wall of calligraphy in my living room. I may add one more piece to the wall later. The most colorful piece is a Sister Mary Corita print. The rest are my own original calligraphy pieces.

That's Mama Hippo above my bed. She is the first piece of art I ever purchased. She has since been rematted and reframed, but her place has always been above my bed.
